Putting music on canvas is the present occupation of Carlyle Streit '28, who began the work in 1929, when Cesar Franck's Symphony in D Minor inspired him to attempt catching the music with his own artistic mediumpainting. Since this early work of Streit's, other artists have tried using the same inspirational medium, and such productions as Disney's Fantasia have resulted.

Streit's paintings have been on exhibition at the Wurlitzer Music Company in Cincinnati. His exhibits have won honors at the University of Cincinnati, and also in out-of-town competitions. Two of his most popular canvases are Stravinsky's "Firebird," done in brilliant flaming colors, and Paganini's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, which emphasizes pattern, is less dramatic and violent than the "Firebird."
