Announcement was recently made of the engagement of Miss Edith Manley Irwin to Lieut. John Eaton Whelden USA, son of Mr. and Mrs. Perley E. Whelden of Newton Center, Mass. Miss Irwin was graduated from Connecticut College in 1940 and resides in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Lieut. Whelden, Dart. '38, is now on overseas duty.

M. R. Brown of Fall River, Mass., reports in a happy vein of his strenuous endeavors in the manufacturing line and of Helen's Red Cross work. Daughter Barbara's husband is an officer of the Air Force.

Roy Bergengren of Madison, Wise., writes interestingly of his work, altered by war conditions. Seemingly, the more the difficulties, the better Roy likes it. Roy Jr., after entering as a private a year and a half ago, has attained his wings in the Air Corps and has graduated from the Fighter Command School. His daughter's husband has gone the hard route from private to 2nd lieut. in the Army, graduating this past fall from Fort Benning. Roy's letter closes —"The world isn't big enough to house comfortably these two philosophies (Hitler's and ours), so we old timers have another incentive to stick around—that we may be in at the finish."

Harry Watson of Keene, N. H., has fully recovered from effects of the lively dinner following the Harvard game in October. His daughter, Mrs. Margaret O'Neill, is spending time at her parental home while her husband, a captain, is serving Uncle Sam. Bill Watson is in Officer's Training School somewhere in the U. S.

A letter addressed to Jim Cresswell, Fort Worth, Texas, has recently been returned from the Dead Letter Office. With deadly efficiency that office of our government is functioning. An endeavor to hit Jim on the nose in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego or Fort Worth brings the same brown paper envelope. The fact is that Jim is needed in New England to discover oil and anyone who knows his immediate whereabouts will confer a favor by sending me his address.
