Big news from the West Coast this month. Halladie Grant was married in Colorado on Labor Day to Don Haid. Halladie reports that it was a grand time with many Dartmouth types in attendance, especially '81s. The festivities started early (like Thursday), and ended late (the following Monday). There was golfing, hiking, and barbecues on Thursday and Friday, culminating in a Saturday morning ceremony. The reception was followed by a dinner-dance for out- of-town visitors and more fun and games on Sunday and Monday. Halladie reported that the weather all weekend was beautiful; lucky H, it snowed on Monday!
Halladie's husband, Don, is living in Ottawa where-he is a forestry economist. Halladie is still in San Francisco working for GATX in transportation finance. Ah, the life of newlyweds, spanning countries and coasts. Halladie notes that they hope to start living in the same time zone (at least) in the next couple of months.
Talking to Halladie brought lots of news of other '81's. Kathy Shepard is still on the West Coast, riding any mountain bike she can find! Steve "Whitey" Herzog has moved from New York to California, where he is still with JP Morgan selling equities. Apparently, Morgan dragged their feet about allowing Steve to transfer out west, so he just left, taking three months to meander cross-country. Of course, who should want to hire him once he arrived in San Francisco? Go figure.
Cindy Greco Herr and husband Brett had a baby boy who was born in mid-September. Jenny Toolin McAuliffe has left law firm Ropes and Gray and is working for Fidelity Investments, where she keeps an eye on Eastern European investments. Christine Blaski (of "kittens in the freezer" fame from '81 columns gone by) has landed in lowa City, lowa, where she is completing her pulmonary fellowship. Daniel Gilroy, currendy a screen- writer of some accomplishment, I'm told, and his wife, Renee, had a baby girl in the summer. Danny, brother John Gilroy, and Pat King 'BO created a short film which won the Golden Eagle award at the Washington Film Festival. The film starred no other than MarkLotito, who was most recently seen on Broad- way as die lead in Some Happy Fella (I think that's the one!). Thaxter Sharp also recently moved to San Francisco and is already the president of the Dartmouth Club of Northern California. Thaxter was also married during the summer, but no details as of yet. BobCrowe got married in the summer to long- time girlfriend Olga Pulido. Apparently it was upwards of an eight-year courtship. Take some chances, Bob!
Kevin Lewis is working for a health-care venture-capital firm in Denver and enjoying himself quite a bit, it is reported. Lolly Bates is in Seattle, where she is the manager of a printing company. Alan Greenstein is also in Seattle, where he is an engineer with a barcoding company.
Kim Young Moragne and her husband, John '79, have recently moved to Menlo Park. No word on what either is doing, but they now have two little boys, so you know some of what they're doing! Su Moon Paik and husband Bobby Brown 'BO had a little boy about six months ago, their first, I believe. Timothy Burgard has been appointed the Henry Luce Foundation Associate Curator of American Art at Harvard's Fogg Museum. Tim is the first curator of American Art at the Harvard Museums, and was previously at the New York Historical Society.
As of next month I'll be doing this column jointly with Abner Oakes. Abner is teaching at the Tabor Academy in Massachusetts as well as coaching, tutoring, and a zillion other things. I'm thrilled to work with him on the column and hope that between us we can report the news on as many of you as possible. Thanks Abner! That's all for now. Cheers.
