ARMY SPECIALIZED TRAINING PROGRAM

NAVY COLLEGE TRAINING PROGRAM

Voluntary enlistment stopped. Must enter service through draft. Will be drafted by June, 1943 or shortly after 18th birthday.

Will be sent to basic training centers. During basic training may apply for Army Specialized Training Program. If selected will be sent to college by the Army.

Selection will be by methods used to choose men for Officer Candidate School. Men must be intellec- tually, temperamentally, psychologically and educationally capable of attaining standard of proficiency set by the Army.

Medics and pre-medics if drafted before end of spring semester may finish semester, then qualify to continue medical studies under Army Specialized Training Program.

College StudentsNotin Reserves

Voluntary enlistment in V Classes stopped except college men 17 years of age may enlist in Class V-1 before March 15, 1943. Men 18-2 a must enter Navy through draft. After apprentice seaman training may apply for Navy College Training Program through commanding officer, but this program is not designed for men who have been to college. May express preference for Marines or Coast Guard when drafted in Navy.

Seniors: Active duty and basic training after spring semester. Active duty and basic training after Juniors spring semseter. May then qualify for Sophomores program and be sent to a co]lege for Freshmen specialized training. ] specialized training. Medics: Active duty after spring semester and immediate detail to medical school. Pre-Medics: Active duty after spring semester. Detail to medical school either before or after basic training (undecided). NOTE: This information accurate for Dartmouth calendar. Recent Army order states men may finish the semester which ends after December 31, 1942.

College StudentsSworn inReserves

All V-1, V-5, V-7 men to go on active duty soon. V-5 men begin flight training when called. V-1 and V-7 men will be detailed to continue college courses. All medics allowed to complete professional studies. Marine Reserves—no announcement, arrangement like V-7 probable.

May resign commissions and continue studies with rank of apprenticed seamen, at government expense, under this program.

Voluntary enlistment stopped. May enter college as usual and take regular curriculum at own expense until drafted, or enter Army through draft before entering college. Men drafted will receive basic training, and may then qualify to take courses in colleges under this program.

All men in Army 18-22 who have graduated from high school or equivalent may apply for assignment to this program after basic training. Army courses in colleges will be technical, vary in length and difficulty. Basic course probably 18 months, plus advanced courses for qualified men.

Applicants forAdmission toCollege

Navy will select men for College Training Program during senior year of high school. Basis of selection, examinations, tests, officer-like qualities, 18/20 vision.

Men selected will go into Navy when graduated, and immediately be detailed to attend colleges. Can express preference of colleges, and preference for Navy, Marines, or Coast Guard.

May enter college as usual and take regular curriculum at own expense until drafted, then apply for assignment to Navy quota. Train as seaman and qualify for College Training Program. Only exceptional men may qualify in this manner.

Not fully determined. Army will establish prescribed technical courses, basic and advanced, directly pointed at concrete military tasks. Tests to select and screen technical ability.

Curricula

Not fully determined. Navy will establish prescribed course for each branch of service.

Basic course will be 2 terms of 16 weeks, and include Navy orientation and organization, Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry, English, Mechanical Drawing, History, Physical Training. Achievement test at end of 2 terms. Advanced courses mostly Engineering.
