ARTHUR H. SULZBERGER, publisher of TheNew York Times, was a guest of honor and speaker at the graduation banquet of the senior class December 14. His address made a profound impression on his audience and is published this month, beginning on page 9.
Dean Lloyd K. Neidlinger describes the training programs announced by the Army and Navy in an article, page 11, Colleges WillBe Used for Military Training. A tabular summary of the Army and Navy programs, carried on page 13, will be helpful to parents and all others who are concerned and interested in War Manpower Commission plans.
The complete list of Dartmouth men engaged in. full-time government, work, as civilians, both in Washington and in the nation at large, is carried on page 14. Recognizing that the list is not complete the Alumni Records Office requests information on omissions or corrections on the list as published. Continued this month is Dartmouth War Directory, page 16, which brings up-to-date the list of alumni in uniform as reported by the Alumni Records Office.
Prof. L. B. Richardson continues his series of Brief Biographies of Buildings with a description of Bissell Hall and of the background of the name it carries, page 18. Teachers Goto College, page 19, by our associate editor, Herbert F. West '22, reports the hard work done by many of the faculty during the winter vacation in preparing themselves for possible need as science teachers.
'Round the Girdled Earth, page 21, is a new department of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE that will give wide circulation to especially interesting and informative letters received from Dartmouth men in the armed forces.
