AN AWARD FOR all-round excellence known as the Dartmouth Trophy has been established at the Army Air Force Preflight School at San Antonio, Texas, and was presented for the first time early in February to the group of cadets which achieved the highest efficiency rating in all phases of training. The trophy, which is the gift of Capt. James D. Landauer '23, acting executive officer of the school, is a large silver loving cup, inscribed simply "The Dartmouth Trophy—AAFPS-SAACC 1943"

The award is to be made every four and one-half weeks at the time of graduation of the upper class and represents top honors in the military, academic, and physical-training branches of the nine weeks' course. The school is divided into a lower and upper class, with a new class of several thousand men entering every four and onehalf weeks.

On the occasion of the first presentation of the Dartmouth Trophy last month, President Hopkins sent the following message to the San Antonio School:

"It is a pleasure to send cordial greetings from the snow-covered hills of New Hampshire to the Aviation Cadets in Preflight School in San Antonio. Dartmouth is complimented to have a trophy for award to winning groups of cadets carry the name of the College.

"Both personally and officially I would like to extend my very best wishes to the thousands of cadets in competition for the Dartmouth Trophy and to wish them the best of luck in the very important work they are doing for the country."
