THE SPRINGFIELD ALUMNI, one hundred strong, turned out to greet our dean "Pudge" Neidlinger at dinner at the Hotel Kimball on December 28.
As President "Ray" Barret '18 is now a captain in the U. S. Army, our genial vicepresident, Win Sturtevant '24, has unceremoniously taken over the presidency and is doing a grand job.
After a brief tribute to all the Dartmouth men in the armed forces by ye secretary, Win, who described himself as another "substitute" caused by the war, introduced "Pudge." Included in Win's remarks was a quotation from an 1842 geography which stated "Hanover is beautifully situated on the Connecticut River. It is the seat of Dartmouth College, one of the most 'respectable' and flourishing institutions in the United States."
One of the highlights of the evening was the introduction of the twenty undergraduates, some with their fathers, who were ours guests. Included in the group were George Burke and Fred Lufgren, just graduated and both Phi Beta Kappa.
Pudge's talk was the finest and most interesting our club has heard in many a moon. He covered the past and present events of the College since the war started and made some predictions as to the future of Dartmouth. Our sincere thanks to "Pudge" for an outstanding job, not only as a speaker but as Dean of our College.
