I think we, the Class of 1966, have finally made it. We're full fledged alumni. Sure, we've been away from our undergraduate days for more than nine years, but those close student-college bonds forged during four years break slowly.

For the first few post-graduate years we knew people at Dartmouth - men in other classes, teachers, coaches, storekeepers, administrators. There was still an intimacy, a relationship. Then too, we ourselves were still as unsettled as we were at Dartmouth - still students, soldiers, travelers, experimenters.

But with the conclusion of our second reunion, the solid chronological advance into the thirties, and our irrepressible movement in this Alumni Magazine from the back toward the front, we have matured into alumni, viewing the College and its events through the new perspective of our own current concerns - our careers, our families, our futures. This column will continue to record the personal milestones and triumphs that, when viewed as a whole, reflect both what we are and what we hope to be.

Back in June, on reunion weekend in fact, EdGrew and Priscilla Perkins were married in Groveland, Mass., and formed a geologic braintrust. Priscilla, with a Ph.D. in geology from the University of California, holds joint appointments as assistant research geologist at the Institute of Geophysics and as assistant professor at UCLA. Ed, a researcher at the Geophysical and Polar Research Center at the University of Wisconsin, has a doctorate from Harvard. The couple is living in Santa Monica, Calif.

Dr. John Reinisch and Mary moved to New Orleans for one year of General Surgery Residency. That was three years ago. Now John is continuing his work in microcirculatory systems, has opened a small family practice in their home, and he and Mary love the city nearly as much as their two daughters, Lisel and Dana.

After five years in Pittsburgh, Jim Oathout is moving to Toledo, Ohio, and Libbey-Owens-Ford as a senior attorney. Jim had been a partner in the law firm of Harris & Oathout for four years. He graduated from BU Law School.

Dr. Stan Hobbs has been appointed technical coordinator of the chemical laboratory at the General Electric Research and Development Center, Schenectady, N.Y. Stan joined GE after receiving his Ph.D. in chemistry from RPI in 1970. His work has centered on crystalline polymers, he's written a dozen technical papers and been awarded two U.S. patents.

Jeff and Marjean Marks live in Bradford, N.H., where Jeff is involved with the Dartmouth Christian Fellowship, after similar work experiences in Westchester County, N.Y., and on the campus of the University of Virginia.

Peter Cleaves has been in Latin America for the past seven years, and Dorothy has been at his side nearly all that time. Pete is currently assistant representative for the social science program of the Ford Foundation in Lima, Peru, with his grant and fellowship responsibilities extending into Ecuador and Bolivia.

Three (non doctor) classmates are enjoying interesting military careers. Jack Stebe is a strategic reconnaissance pilot for the Air Force based at Davis Monthan AFB, Tucson. Jack's work calls for lots of travel to places he cannot disclose, but when he comes home his four boys must keep him busy. Bill Hayden's also up in the air often as a test pilot for the Navy at Air Test & Evaluation Squadron Four, Pt. Mugu, California. While serving in Japan with, the Marine Corps, Capt. Paul Darling studied Japanese cultural history. Now he's assistant recruiting officer at the Marine Corps Recruiting Station in Macon, Georgia.

Jim Grinnell is a design director at Webin & Morrill, a New York package design firm that helps such firms as Hasbro Toys, Salada Foods and National Distillers develop new products.

How do you train for the post of administrative supervisor of the Hennepin County (Minneapolis) District Court? DennyChemberlin did it by teaching math for two years with the Peace Corps in Nigeria, working with Hennepin County's-personnel department in 1971, and joining the court the following year. He's now in charge of the jury system, count personnel, and the court's budget administration.

Almost forgot the traditional predictions. The Indians, (oops) make that the Big Green Football team, will finish third in the Ivy League, as will the Dartmouth soccer squad. Also traditional, but sincere - please write with news to 440 E. 79th St., New York, N.Y. 10021.
