THE DARTMOUTH SECRETARIES' ASSOCIATION is sponsoring a plan whereby Dartmouth alumni clubs and associations, as well as individual Dartmouth alumni, located near Army Camps and Naval Stations, may get in touch with, and extend their hospitality to, any Dartmouth alumni in uniform.
It has been suggested that names of Dartmouth men may best be secured through the commanding officer of the Army camp or Naval base. It might be desirable to ask the officer to post a notice requesting "all Dartmouth men to sign their names and camp addresses below" or otherwise secure this data which we do not have in Hanover in complete or accurate form. Service addresses change so rapidly that the Alumni Records Office cannot keep up with them.
A plan that has proved helpful for Alumni Clubs is to locate a Dartmouth man among the staff officers who will be willing to take charge of the whole plan. Once you have the names of Dartmouth men invitations to them may be sent direct.
The Dartmouth Club of Georgia is doing an excellent job in entertaining Dartmouth men in service. Bob Offenbach '34, secretary of the club, reports that he has written to the C.O. at Camp Wheeler at Macon, and Fort McPherson in Atlanta, to put him in touch with the officer in charge of college affiliations so that Dartmouth men may be invited to private homes, or to entertainments, luncheons, etc., sponsored by the Club. At Fort Benning Lt. Bill Geraghty '37 has cooperated, and the same is true of Capt. L.J. Fitzpatrick '24 at Lawson General Hospital in Atlanta.
The irrepressible "Irish" Sidney J. Flanigan '23 reports that the Dartmouth Club of New York, at 37 E. 39th St., is playing host to many Dartmouth men in uniform, hundreds of whom pass through every week on their way to some camp or base.
It is hoped that in time all facilities possible be organized throughout the country by alumni groups to entertain and make welcome all Dartmouth men in the service. The editors of this MAGAZINE will welcome reports and suggestions on entertainment of fellow-alumni in uniform.
