If you happen to be in New York and would enjoy reading your home-town newspaper you might go to Hotaling's Times Square out-of-town newsstand for a copy. Charlie's dad founded the stand in 1905 and upon graduation Charlie joined him in business. Now more than 400 different U. S. cities are represented in the daily display. It has afforded many interesting experiences for Charlie. Since inclement weather affects outdoor business sharply, Hotaling used to call the Weather Bureau for advance notice of bad weather. When the War Department ruled out-long range forecasts, Charlie would study reports in New England, Mid-western and Gulf State newspapers and predict New York weather by dovetailing his observations. But his forecasts were strictly private and the only way to get the benefit of Charlie's system was to buy a dozen papers. Now that the War Department has relaxed its weather order you have to buy only one.
