GREEN NINE WINS 8 OF 15
October 1944 Al Goldstein '47

In retrospect, Jeff Tesreau's baseball nine finished up an average season by downing the Windsor Conomatics a week ago, 2-1, for its eighth victory in fifteen starts. Carl Meurn finished the season with three wins against four defeats, with lefty Fred Keuhn receiving credit for one victory and Rudy Rufer five.

The team batting title went to left fielder Tommy Killick who finished the season with a .358 mark. Bobby Callan, returning to Dartmouth after a year's absence, was runner up with .333 and held down the shortstop position. Callan, moreover, lost a tough 4-3 ball game to the Manchester All-Stars when a i2th-inning home run ended the game. The Indians' hitting power was not too potent, and Meurn lost several tough games to some outstanding opponents. After building up a g-i lead over Holy Cross and a 5-0 lead over the fast semi-pro Worcester Nortons, the Big Green blew both their advantages and lost, 5-4 and 6-5. The nine also dropped two previous engagements, 12-1 to the Crusaders and 6-5 to the Nortons. Besides these four games, Camp Endicott managed to squeak out 1-0 and 9-1 victories, and the Boston- Coast Guard took a close 5-4 game. Victories were registered over Williams, 5-2, Colgate, 2-1 and 10-3, Portsmouth Marines, 9-1, Camp Thomas, a-i, and Brown, 13-3.

THREE POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS to Coach Earl Brown's worrisome end problem are these Navy V-12 newcomers. Left to right, they are Ed Miller from Balboa Island, Calif.; Rollin Sontag from New York City; and Gerald Peck from Newton, Mass.
