Postwar Papers

Robert U. Brown '34, the recently named 31-year-old editor of the newspapers' and printers' trade journal Editor and Publisher, sees a great future in the postwar world for newspapers.

In an interview in a New York paper, Mr. Brown stated his belief that television and facsimile in their present state of development will not be a satisfactory substitute for the newspaper that "can be picked up and read." The necessity for conforming to wartime restrictions on space and the presentation of news plus great mechanical improvements will, Mr. Brown predicted, result generally in newspapers of higher quality after the war. Television may be utilized by publishers and editors as an added channel for getting the news out to their readers.
