The secretary has received a reply to his inquiry written to Mrs. Charles Carpenter, from a trustee of her husband's estate, classmate Cushman. We are seeking to learn what descendants of '87 are in the Armed Forces, and are glad to announce that one of the sons is fighting for his country. We were not told what was the branch of the service.—So far our efforts to locate the whereabouts of our
"class baby" have met with failure. A letter add ressed to her last known address (she is Mrs. Harris) has been returned without finding the desired destination. If any of the class have an address we would like to keep trying. Mrs. Hardy, widow of our late classmate William Prescott Hardy, has sent the programme of an all day memorial service to his memory, held at the Mission Covenant church, Tujunga, Cal., February 18, under the auspices of the Evangelical Prayer Union. The subject was, "A Good Man." Eight clergymen and professional men paid tribute to our highly esteemed classmate. There was an interlude for luncheon.
After waiting several months for a reply to a letter of inquiry, we have been rewarded by a fine letter from John Dana Bell, who may now be addressed at 1508 Broadway, Boise, Idaho. He impresses us with a realization of the great blessing of abundant progeny; and in this respect "John Dana" is more fortunate than most of us. Let him tell us:
"My daughter Bessy works down town, my son John, unmarried, is working as a carpenter and contractor and has been very busy. My daughter Helen, married name York, is living in Detroit, Mich., and has a little girl, Carol Lee, born July 4, 1943. Her husband is a personnel director in the big Ford plant. He came there from the War Dep artment at Washington, where he was a personnel director. My daughter Margery is living in Boise, married name is Pemberton. She has a little girl, Barbara Jean, now two years old, who is a living question mark, with her oft-repeated, 'What is that? What is that?' Her husband John has been notified to take his physical examination, which may change all their plans. My daughter Enid (married name is McManimie) is living at Breme rton, Washington, on Puget Sound. She has two children, Helen Margaret and Jan Ray. Her husb and, Ray, is a draftsman at the naval shipyards at Bremerton."
John Dana says he is doing very little, but has been studying a text book on electricity and working out some of the problems. "I can say I am proud of the record of our class, and feel sorry that it is dwindling so rapidly. Maybe some day we shall have a big class reunion up there. Good wishes to all our class." To which we say AMEN! Especially for that reunion with "John Dana" present in the flesh!
