DARTMOUTH CELEBRATED the Christmas season by resuming the traditional Christmas Carol Service on Dec. 16 in Rollins Chapel and by granting students and personnel the longest holiday, Dec. 23 to 27, since the Navy V-12 Training Program was established at the College. Civilian students were also granted a recess extension of two days if they chose to take it.
As has been the custom, the Dartmouth Glee Club, the Student Nurses' Choir of the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital and the Hanover Junior Choir, with Prof. Maurice F. Longhurst as organist, presented the program of Christmas music in the specially decorated chapel. The Invocation and Benediction was given by the College Chaplain, the Rev. R. B. Chamberlin, and the Scripture was read by the Commanding Officer of the V-12 Unit, Capt. Damon E. Cummings.
Though the Carol Service was the only formal celebration of the Christmas season by the College, a Christmas party was given on Dec. 20 for the civilian and V-12 students with President Hopkins extending the greetings of the season. A special Christmas concert by the Trapp Family Singers was another campus event of the pre-holiday week.
