Once again we regret to report the passing of more of our classmates. Charles Teale Rue, Edwin A. Stroh, and Robert A. Worton have made the supreme sacrifice in the service of their country, and our deepest sympathies go to their families and friends. Details will be found in the In Memoriam section of a latter issue. First Lieutenant Art O'Hara has been reported missing in action while piloting a B-29 on a daylight raid over Yokohama, Japan; when his ship was hit Art bailed out with other crew members and is considered to be a prisoner. By this time he is probably on his way home—we hope so.

Jim Brindley is back in the States with the first group of American Field service men to be repatriated since VE day after twenty months overseas as an ambulance driver. Jim worked with British, Canadian, American, Indian, South African, Polish, and Italian Divisions and was in Italy, Egypt, France, Holland, and Belgium during his voluntary service Ensign Hank Bush has reported to Norfolk to train for duties aboard a destroyer Radio Technician 2nd Class Dick Bowser was up a while back and seemed to be headed for Shoemaker, Calif., and the South Pacific after being in Washington for several months Charlie Hamilton has become a big hero from the writeups we read in all the Boston papers recently. A tail-gunner on a PBM, his ship was forced down on a Jap-held island and Charley, disguised as a French peasant, worked his way to the coast. After waiting quite a few days for aid he was picked up by an American sub and brought back to the states.

Recently Seen in Town . . . . Lt. Don Furber of the Marine Corps, out of Quantico and headed for Camp Pendleton, Calif., and probable overseas occupational duty Ens. Tom Leech on leave from Miami and all set for Amphib service Bob Clifton in the Navy and in his second year at Harvard Dental School. He informed us that Fred Caswell was at Northwestern Dental and that Ted Waring was in the Navy in the South Pacific Jack Novascone was in town for several days after finishing Radio School at Texas A&M and Washington and dropped us a nice line from the coast before shipping out to Honolulu Don Hutchinson and Hugh MacNamee (Mac's married, you know) who enter Columbia Med School in November. By the way, those two who were close friends both at Kimball Union and Dartmouth found themselves rooming together at Princeton last year in ASTP.

Notes .... Hank "the Ripper" Malcolm, when last heard from, was at Norfolk waiting for a new destroyer of the Atlantic Fleet Louie Witzeman is a reporter on the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson Paul Hoveman (Navy) is at N. Y. U. Med School. .... Don "Ducky" Drake was in town not long ago with the Mrs., having been married a year or so ago In listing the '46s back in school in the August issue I erroneously omitted Oliver Rea and Demetrio Castillo; the former served with both the AUS and the AFS. .... Carl McKinnon has been named Co-Captain of the football team (along with Meryll Frost '44, who is back in school after much overseas duty with the AAF) and should be one of the best guards in the East this year; Milt Fromson and Ollie Nelson should play a lot of ball too and at the present time are battling it out for first string positions at halfback and tackle respectively 2nd Lt. Walt Snickenberger was home recently after finishing the Japanese Language course at Colorado University in the Marines and he and Jean Dent seem to be all set

Wah hoo wah for the following '46s who recently received service promotions Ensigns Bill Hart, Johnny Drury, Andy Bullis, and Hank Bush, and 2nd Lts. Ralph Smith, Dune Fitchet, Chuck Bodley, Dave Chalmers, Jud Hannigan, and Walt Snickenberger (the last five in the Marine Corps).

Rumors have it that Bill Prince is on his way home from Army service in the ETO Received a very nice letter from Gene Bokor's father who tells us that Gene is still with the 488 th Engineers and is now located near Le Havre in France..... Ist Lt. Pete Goodspeed (Infantry) has been awarded the Bronze Star and by this time his Silver Star decoration should have been presented for gallantry in action in Germany "Doc" Wexler is a Pfc. in ASTP at the University of Oregon Med School at Portland Dick Scharrer writes from Lincoln Army Air Base, Nebr., and wonders when he's going to get out of "that hole." .... Ed Thomas' mother writes and tells us that Ed is in Germany with the Infantry after being seemingly headed for Chemical Warfare School; before going overseas he trained at Camp Devens, Camp Wheeler, and Camp Shelby. Joe "Percy" Davenport has "resigned" from his "responsible executive position" in Chattanooga and plans to accept a more lucrative offer in New York City in the near future; we hear he's "all gears" for some vivacious Sweetbriar gal what's'the story, Joe?.... Come November four more '46s will leave their alma mater with the old sheepskin—Ray Berry, Don Millians, Dick Price (who, by the way, will enter University of Michigan Law School this winter), and your correspondent. In addition, all the '46 Med students will leave Hanover for further study elsewhere before getting their MD's. You can see that the town will be quite devoid of '46s till you guys get back. . . . . Lt. Aud Brindley (Marines) spent his honeymoon in Hanover in September before heading for the Pacific.

Johnny Potter was at Glenview, Ill. (Naval Air Station), when last heard from and should be commissioned by n0w..... Harv Schiff dropped us a nice line a short while ago and told us he had been overseas seventeen months, spending most of that time in a Naval hospital in Scotland. In May he was transferred to North Ireland and expected to be sent back to the States for Naval Air Corps training in August or September of this year. Harv informed us that Dave Narva is in the Philippines as an Army Medic. For your information Harv Howie Samuel is an interpreter for Italian POW's in Ohio; Sam Florman has been commissioned an ensign after finishing up and receiving a B.S. degree at Thayer School but we don't have his present whereabouts; and Bill Beaven is still in Hanover and completes his second year of Med School in October. Bill is in the Navy and will go on to another school in the fall..... Slim Bremer is in New York working for American Airlines and mentioned in a recent letter running into Jimmy Pulliam (commissioned in the Marines) in the Big City lately Hank Stern was commissioned an ensign last winter, spent several months at Harvard in Communications, and is now at sea From his father, we learn that Pfc. Bill Wyeth was wounded in the hand by shrapnel on Okinawa and is recovering in a hospital in the Marianas. He is serving in the Infantry and got through Leyte OK. We're all hoping for a quick recovery, Bill Johnny Murpny is missing in action in the Pacific Theater on Okinawa. Our greatest hopes go to his parents. "Abie" Hinman was shot up pretty badly in the ETO and should be home soon. Pfc. Anson Smith was hit by a sniper's bullet in Germany and is back in the states recovering at Lovell General Hospital, Fort Devens, being flown from Paris to Manchester..... Ensign Phil Osberg completed training at Miami and recently reported to Boston for further training. Larry Bartnick (Ensign) is at sea after leaving Norfolk. First Lieutenant Don O. Smith has been assigned to Westover Field, Mass., where heavy bomber crews are being trained for combat flying. An overseas veteran, he flew as a heavy bomber copilot in the ETO Charlie Hamilton is back home after a long period in the Pacific as an NAC gunner.

Hal Bowman and Jean Herrick of Winchester and Clark Judge and June Wade of Palmyra, Penna., complete the new class couples.

That's about all the news, fellas I can't write much of a column if you guys don't let me know where you are and what you're doing, so drop "Gus" a line if you can. In closing I might say that we were all grieved several weeks ago at the death of Slim Conner. All of us knew and liked Slim and will certainly miss him.
