Captain Robert V. Yeuell '39, who was killed November 18 during a vigorous engagement with the enemy in Germany, was one of the most efficient and popular officers in his Field Artillery Battalion. His battery had been supporting the infantry since the landing on D-Day and he was constantly in the front lines observing enemy fire and with his steady smile reassuring the men. At the time of his death he was preparing a heavy artillery barrage to support an attack on a strongly fortified town which was successfully carried out.

He had been awarded the Bronze Star and received a battlefield promotion to captain's rank. He was much admired by the infantry for the excellent support he gave them.

Captain Yeuell joined his battalion at Camp Blanding, Fla., in September 1942

He prepared for Dartmouth at the Wakefield High School, Wakefield, Mass., and his father, who survives him, still resides in the town.
