NEW WORLD OF MACHINES

By HarlandManchester '21. Random House, 300 pages,$3.00.

Mr. Manchester's description of the newest machines that are creating the wonders of this war and his clear outline of the breath-taking possibilities for these machines in the future is told in a clear and dramatic style as readable as a novel and as full of mystery as a good murder story. The non-technical language which Mr. Manchester has used makes this a book for every man, whether he be a technician or a Yankee Farmer.

Though lightly handled, this is not the work of a speculator. It is the result of firsthand knowledge, gained through interviews, study, and research. It is a report of events that are making history just as realistically as any other forces of this period.

If you are interested in finding the blue prints, specifications, and details for constructing the complicated machines about which Mr. Manchester writes, then don't bother with this book. If you are interested in the story of the true and dramatic growth of radar, diesel engines, high octane gas, the helicopter, plastics, or any of the other wonders described in this book, then you can't do better than "New World of Machines."

The section, "On the Farm," has an earthy quality that is well placed to bring the reader down to earth and is, in my opinion, one of the most interesting chapters in the book.
