Room 4823 Navy Dept., Washington, D. C. For those of you who need a reminder, let's get that Alumni Fund lettuce in before the end of this month. I think the Pace Setter has grabbed most of the news, but here we go. Charlie Wiggins got his promotion to major and wife Helen here to first lieutenant, WAC. She's at Kelly Field and Charlie is staff gunnery officer for the AAF "Jungle Air Force" in the Pacific. From Ons Gordon (Captain): "I'm commanding a Collecting Co. with the Division. The Collecting Co. is a part of a combat team and is responsible for the medical support of the team. We set up in the same beat-up houses that follow in the wake of every army." Walls has gone to Bermuda with the ATC. From Heinie Beck, "I've been living here in Honolulu for the past sixteen months under rather luxurious conditions, as conditions go out here. From time to time I've seen a number of Dartmouth guys including Mai, Reno, Duckworth, Warren Flynn, Borneman, Jim Donovan '39, Tel Mook, Clarke Barrett, Bud Devlin. (That's the first word of Devlin in some time). I'm now aide to a flag officer, which is not a bad job at all, as Navy jobs go. Have hopes of getting home on leave at the completion of twenty-four months out here, but my boss tells me I'm out here for the duration." Herb Christiansen says he's about to shove off once again.
We are sorry to report that Capt. Bill Sullivan was killed in an airplane crash at Smyra Army Air Field, Murphysville, Tenn.
From Bob Emlen. "I'm now with Day & Zimmerman, Engineers, Phila. At the moment I'm assigned to E. G. Budd, working on an analysis of productive floor space." From Harold Rugg, Baker Library, "I had an interesting letter from Bob Lang dated March 24 in which he states that he has been in China, Assam, Burma, Ceylon and is now in Calcutta. On the way over he had three days in Algiers, six in Rome and two weeks in Cairo, and that in Chungking he had the pleasure of attending the first known meeting of the Dartmouth Club of China held at the home of Dr. Pan '27." I am out of a general hospital for the first time in my army career and welcome my first responsibility. I have a nice office practice in a good dispensary, run by a small detachment of a dentist, eight enlisted men, and myself as CO. We serve 2000 G.I.S, French, Russians, and Germans.
