Receives Award

A recent recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross is Frederick Kent Blatchford '39, former Naval aviator and now a resident of Northfield, Ill. The award was for his extraordinary achievement and heroism in an air attack on the Philippines on November 13, 1944. Then Lt. F. Kent Blatchford, he scored a direct hit on a Japanese.ship in the face of heavy anti-aircraft fire. He also received the unit commendation for service aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hancock.

Honorably discharged a year ago, Blatchford is now associated with McFadden Publications of Chicago, and lives with his wife, the former Beverly Cleary Roach and son, F. Kent Blatchford Jr., aged 2.
