NOVEMBER 1966 ARTHUR WILLIAMS III

The annual meeting was held at the Plainfield Country Club on May 21 and was attended by 36 members of the Club and their wives. At the meeting the following men were elected officers for the 1966-67 year: Richard C. Griggs '60, president; Arthur Williams III '63, secretary; Edward J.Hobbie '59, vice president; and David C.Haight '60, treasurer.

The Club has embarked upon an ambitious program for the year with the dual objectives of encouraging qualified students from our area to go to Dartmouth and raising money for the Club Scholarship Fund to assist them. William A. Fead '44 has been appointed chairman of the enrollment program, which is the Club's primary effort for contacting high school students who might be interested in Dartmouth. Bill would like to hear from any member who knows of a promising student, so plans can be made for a formal get-together.

The annual dues mailing was made early in October. Dues are $2.00 for men out less than 5 years and $5.00 for men graduated before 1962. Along with the bill for dues went a questionnaire in which area graduates were polled to determine their preference of Club activities. Since these functions are the only source of revenue for the Scholarship Fund, it is necessary that activities be designed to ensure maximum participation. Anyone with a suggestion along these lines should contact any officer or board member.

Frank H. Blatz Jr. '58 and Ed Hobbie '59 are attempting to redraft the Club's constitution so the Club can achieve a tax-exempt status. This would make dues and other contributions by members a tax-deductible expense.

The Alumni Office has informed us that 28 Dartmouth graduates have moved into this area since spring (including eight men from the Class of 1966). President Griggs is contacting each of these men to extend" his personal welcome and urge that they join the Club. Current members will have an excellent opportunity to meet the newcomers at the Annual Tea Dance to be held on November 13 at the Plainfield Country Club from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. It is hoped that the "dance," which a large number of the Club members will attend, will give a substantial boost to the Scholarship Fund.
