OUR LEAD ARTICLE this month is written by Sidney C. Hayward '26, Secretary of the College, and admirably presents the aims and purposes of the proposed Hopkins Center and will, we hope, go a long way toward clearing up current misconceptions of the intended usage, location and construction of the building. In addition, the complete Hopkins Memorial plan is outlined, including the Hopkins Scholarships for sons of alumni killed in the war just past and the modernization of the outmoded Wilder Physics Building. The article appears on Page 11.
For the first time since his retirement over a year ago we give you an insight into the activities of President Emeritus Ernest Martin Hopkins '01 in a pictorial spread and a short summary of a busy day with the College's most beloved alumnus. "A President Emeritus Leads a Busy Life" is on Page 16.
A familiar, but little publicized, landmark of Hanover Plain receives some of its due this month. For many years now that little white building up on the shoulder of the Lone Pine Hill has seemed just a charming anonymous adjunct to Bartlett Tower and the stump of the Lone Pine. "On The Hill," Page 19, gives you the interesting history and the scientific attainments of the Shattuck Observatory.

Robert H. Higgons '43 and the charming feminine two-thirds of the Higgons family, wife Gloria and daughter Linda, obligingly lent themselves and their Sachem Village living room to our staff photographer, Adrian Bouchard, for this month's cover.
