A NEW REGIONAL SCHOLARSHIP for the State of Missouri has been established at the College as a memorial to Clark Schmidt '33 "who answered his country's call in April 1942 and subsequently as a Major in the U. S. Army Air Corps lost his life on September 23, 1944, at Turah, India."
The scholarship has been founded by the Dartmouth Alumni Association of St. Louis and will be awarded to a candidate living in the State of Missouri or that part of the metropolitan area of St. Louis in Illinois. The award for the present is $250 for two terms, but the St. Louis alumni hope to raise the amount soon to $5OO. At the same time they are building up an endowment fund to which contributions have been coming in steadily.
The Missouri Regional Scholarship joins similar Dartmouth awards for the States of California (2), Connecticut (3), New Hampshire (2), Illinois, and Ohio, plus twelve national Trustee Scholarships on the Cohen Foundation. The Regional Scholarships are awarded to freshman applicants of outstanding excellence on the assumption that they will be continued through succeeding years if the recipient remains in good standing and continues to demonstrate the need for financial aid.
