THE APPOINTMENT OF seven members of faculty to professorial chairs and the promotion of six others to full or assistant professorships were announced by President Dickey last month, following votes of approval by the Board of Trustees at its annual commencement meeting.
Seven full professors have been named to the following chairs:
Bancroft H. Brown, to the B. P. Cheney Professorship of Mathematics, last held by Prof. John Wesley Young from 1912 to 1932.
Leon B. Richardson '00, to the New Hampshire Professorship of Chemistry last held by Prof. Edwin J. Bartlett from 1888 to 1920.
William K. Wright, to the Stone Professorship of Intellectual and Moral Philosophy, last held by Prof. Wilbur M. Urban from 1930 to 1930.
Henry M. Dargan, to the Willard Professorship of Rhetoric and Oratory, last held by Prof. Fred Parker Emery from 1895 to 1927.
Francis L. Childs '06, to the Winkley Professorship of the Anglo-Saxon and English Language and Literature, last held by Prof. Curtis Hidden Page from 1911 to 1930-
Louis L. Silverman, to the Professorship of Mathematics on the Chandler Foundation, last held by Prof. Charles N. Haskins from 1916 to 1942.
Charles R. Bagley, to the Edward. Tuck Professorship of the French Language and Literature, last held by Prof. Louis H. Dow from 1912 to 1938.
The six faculty members promoted by action of the Trustees were: Dayton D. McKean, to Professor of Government; Thomas S. K. Scott-Craig, to. Professor of Philosophy; Francis E. Merrill '26, to Professor of Sociology; W. Wedgwood Bowen, to Professor of Zoology and also from Curator to Director of the Dartmouth College Museum: Henry B. Williams, to Assistant Professor of English; and Dr. Nathan T. Milliken, to Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Medical School.
