Awarded Citation

Colonel John M. Murray, MC, AUS, '19 has been awarded the Legion of Merit according to word received from Headquarters, Army Air Forces, Washington, D. C.

The citation reads, "As Chief of Psychiatric Branch, Office of the Air Surgeon, during the period from January 1943 to October 1944, [then] Lieutenant-Colonel Murray displayed extraordinary foresight and professional skill in successfully completing the organization of psychiatric service of the Army Air Forces. His outstanding achievement in the establishment of schools for the indoctrination of medical officers in modern psychiatric methods reflects great credit upon himself and the military service."

A graduate of Dartmouth, the University of Pennsylvania Medical School and the University of Vienna, Dr. Murray is now Chief Psychiatric Consultant for the Veterans Administration in New England. He was formerly College Psychiatrist at Dartmouth from 1931 to 1934.
