NEW APPOINTMENTS, changes in titles, resignations, and leaves of absences were among faculty matters acted upon by the Board of Trustees at its annual meeting concurrent with commencement exercises in late June.
Nine new men were appointed to the faculty with professorial rank. They are: John W. Masland, Professor of Government, formerly at Stanford University; Paul Fisher, Assistant Professor of Economics, formerly at Clark University; Raymond H. Lounsbury, Assistant Professor of Economics, formerly at Russell Sage College; Joseph S. Ransmeier, Assistant Professor of Economics, formerly with the War Department in Washington, D. C; A. Kunrad Kvam, Assistant Professor of Music, formerly with the University of Wisconsin; Frederick W. Sternfield, Assistant Professor of .Music, formerly at Weslyan University; John A. Griswold, Professor of Finance at the Tuck School, formerly at the University of Oklahoma and the Army University at Shrivenham, England; Gordon D. Haverkampf '34 of Chicago, Assistant Professor of Business Administration at the Tuck School; and John B. Holyoke, Assistant Professor of Pathology in the Medical School. All these men will assume their duties. with the coming fall term.
Fifteen new instructors have also been appointed to the faculty. They are: Francis E. Lawlor, Music; William BL Durfee, Mathematics; Wallace C. G. Fraser, Mathematics; Francisco Ugarte, Spanish (as of July 1); John H. Copenhaver '46, Zoology (for the summer term); Rodney A. Walser '45' Chemistry; Richard A. Wetherhead '17N, Geology; Richard D. Jaques '47N, Geology; Benjamin K. Ayers '39, Geology; William L. McLaughlin '37, Surgery at the Medical School; Jackson W. Wright '33, Medicirte at the Medical School; F. Corbin Moister '37, Medicine at the Medical School; William N. Chambers, Medicine at the Medical School; Arthur A. Bright '39, Statistics and Finance at Tuck School, and Elmer Harp Jr., Assistant Curator of the Dartmouth College Museum (as of July. 1).
By vote of the Trustees, seven members of the Medical School faculty will have the following new titles: Dr. Sven M. Gundersen, Instructor in Medicine; Dr. Henry L. Heyl, Instructor in Neurosurgery; Dr. Ralph W. Hunter, Instructor in Medicine; Dr. Jarrett H. Folley, Instructor in Medicine; Dr. John Milne (on leave until Sept. 1, 1947). Instructor in Medicine; Dr. John S. Lyle, Instructor in Gynecology, and Dr. William A. Ellis, Instructor in Surgery.
Resignations were accepted from Joseph M. McDaniel Jr., Professor of Economics; Norman D. Rian, Instructor in Music; Charles E. Messer, Instructor in Chemistry; Rupert H. Hopkins, Instructor in Physics; and Theodore C. Jarvi, Instructor in Physical Education.
The Trustees voted leave of absence for2 the fall term to Albert S. Carlson, Professor of Geography, and cancelled leave, as of July 1, of Albert L. Demaree, Professor of History, and of Dr. M. Dawson Tyson, Assistant Professor of Surgery, both of whom have returned from military service.
