Day before Christmas found Parkhurst busy at his office desk, momentarily, and happily, awaiting the arrival of Richard to spend the holiday with him..... Bouton leads the eventful life. You may recall his narrow escape last spring from a rattler coiled under the hedge where he was raking. During the summer he was proclaimed the veteran of Amateur Variable Star Observers; then he was placed high on the Honor Roll of such observers the world over who had reported the highest number of observations; next he was threatened with an early and painful end by gangrene, feet and legs swollen and infected, nevermore to walk; then a miraculous cure at the hands of a returned Army physician using newly discovered remedies, and so was walking again a mile a day as he passed his 90th birthday; later, returning from one of those walks, walking in the deep and wide wheel-rut of a St. Petersburg street as he neared his home door-way, in spite of extreme deafness, a slight hum or buzz led him to face the left to see a huge Rattler within two feet, poised to strike: with an agility not common in nonagenarians, he sprang to the right out of the rut and out of reach, and shouted to his housekeeper for his gun, but before she reached him, his son, by chance within hearing, seized his own gun, ran and shot off the snake's head This story is much belated. Probably by the time you read it, Bouton will have another adventure to report We five survivors of the ancient world are unanimously of opinion that labor unions should be incorporated and held to the same obligations as other corporations.....
