JOVIAL AI Foley, popular professor of History and a hardy perennial among Sid Hayward's "Alumni Circuit Riders," brought his humor and up-to-date picture of the Hanover scene to Cincinnati on April ist and and. Al arrived Tuesday evening from Youngstown, Ohio, in time to have dinner with a small group of the Alumni. A very enjoyable time was had by those fortunate enough to be present as Al told of the latest happenings in Hanover and "swapped" stories with various members of the group.
Wednesday, after a morning of browsing in the Taft Museum, formerly the home of President William Howard Taft, Al was whisked over to the swank new quarters of the Bankers Club where he had lunch with Frank Loveland '24, E Vance Clark '21, and Dick Barrett '34. Having been lulled into submissiveness by the staid atmosphere and the palatable nourishment, the Good Professor readily acceded to a conducted tour of the city.
Six-thirty Wednesday evening, April 2nd, was the scheduled time tor the local Dartmouth family to gather at the University Club for the Annual Dinner Meeting. Some 45 of the local Alumni turned out to learn how the College was progressing and what the latest news from Hanover might be. Professor Foley, after making his introductory remarks and commenting upon his recent tour of the city, in commendable historical procedure read a brief description of Cincinnati of the 1830's as it appeared to a Bostonian of that era. The Bostonian's observations together with those of the Guest Speaker were enough to put the assembled group in a most receptive mood. Al's capable intertwining of the Foley humor with the serious message he brought from the College made it an enjoyable evening for everyone present. We certainly enjoyed Al Foley and we, here in Cincy, hope the feeling was reciprocal. Hope you'll join us again All
President John Egbert '39 presided at the meeting at which the election of new officers and certain other business was discussed before Professor Foley was given free rein. The new officers elected were:
President—Hass Warrener '39; Vice-President—Jim Hutton Jr. '24; Secretary—Art Motch '3B; Corresponding Secy—Stace Hill '41; Treasurer—E. Vance Clark 'at; Ch. of Admissions—John Egbert '39; Ch. of Entertainment —May Fechheimer '33; Executive Committee —Jim Traquair '26, Lew Johnstone '41, Frank Simpson '41.
Hass Warrener '39, after being elected president for the ensuing year, made a short speech of acceptance and outlined some of his thoughts concerning the activities of an Alumni Club. The Secretary and the Treasurer gave their respective reports which were duly approved by the membership. DaveHeusinkveld '49 gave a short talk on the College Grant after which the membership went on record as favoring development and greater utilization of the area.
Stace Hill '41 gave a report on Jim Traquair's '26 nomination for a position on the Alumni Council as a representative from this area. The Club voted to sponsor a campaign for Jim. Bob Keeler '36 was appointed campaign manager and is to be assisted by the officers of the Club.
We were happy to see that our good friend Milt Johnston '36 of Middletown was finally successful in bringing Frank Myers '41 down for one of the get togethers. We hope more of you Middletowners and fellow neighbors will join the group.
All members attending the Annual Dinner received a copy of the splendid new Club Directory for which Lew Johnstone '41 deserves a loud DA-DA- DARTMOUTH.
After Al Foley disposed of the many questions fired at him, the meeting adjourned and the Good Professor, under the capable guidance of some of the hardier members of the group, had a further tour of the fair city.
