THE FIRST ANNUAL MEETING of the Dartmouth Club of Utica, N. Y. was held on March 2, 1947, at the Fort Schuyler Club with about thirty members and guests present.
After a most delicious roast beef dinner arranged for by James N. Brown '23, JamesG. Capps 'l9, our retiring and popular president called the meeting to order. He said a few words of encouragement about the Club on its first anniversary indicating that for our size we have been quite active and that we appear to be off to a good start.
For the coming year, James N. Brown '23, was elected president, Roland E. Chesley '08, vice president and Hazan B. Hinman '14, of Rome, vice president, Joseph W. Kyser '32, and George Nason Collins '34 were reelected to the positions of treasurer and secretary, respectively (without contest!).
We then listened to what Herb Hill of the College faculty had to say of personalities and events in Hanover. His talk was most enjoyable and appreciated by all, together with the color sound movie, "Green Flashback," which he presented for us following his talk.
The program concluded with several sound shorts on skiing, football and hunting. It was a pleasure to have as guests two present Dartmouth Undergraduates, Jim Locke and Gilbert Jones as well as the sons of two of our members, Dartmouth hopefuls, Robert Capps and Charles Lyon and two young men, also Dartmouth Bound—we hope—Joe Manganelli and Joe Valeriano, both of whom are well known locally for their athletic and scholastic prowess.
We are all indeed grateful to our retiring president, James G. Capps '14, who conceived the idea of a Dartmouth Club for Utica and under whose administration we have made our auspicious start.
We are looking forward to our May Meeting, a joint meeting with the Cornell Group of this City, at which Edmund E. Day, Class of 1905 and President of Cornell University, will be guest of honor and speaker.
