THE DARTMOUTH ALUMNI ASSOCIATION of Arizona takes credit for ending the long drought in the state. By planning its annual meeting May 10 in Phoenix as an outdoor desert barbecue, it brought the first rainfall in many months to this fertile but arid region.
Undampened in spirit, the alumni moved the barbecue indoors where the party developed into one of the most enjoyable held in recent years. Bud Brown '25 and Mrs. Brown were hosts to the gathering. A cowboy guitarist's work on "Eleazar Wheelock" and other Dartmouth songs was worth the price of admission alone. Paradoxically, Bud Brown's rendition of cowboy songs was equally outstanding. Conviviality was heightened by malt beverage supplied by Wilbur Smith- '28 of the Prima-Bismark Brewery in Chicago, who learned about plans for the party when he wintered in Phoenix.
Robert Fish '18, Tucson, was elected president of the association for the ensuing year. John Harlow '28 was elected secretary.
Honors for travelling the longest distance to the meeting went to Dr. Phillip Corliss '27 and his wife, who came from Somerton, in the southwestern corner of the state.
