KARL W. KOENIGER '17 of Newark, N. J., .was elected President of the Dartmouth Alumni Council at its annual June meeting in Hanover on June 18-19. Windsor C. Batchelder '19 of New York was named Vice President and Sidney C. Hayward '26 of Hanover was reelected Secretary. Two new membersat-large, elected by the Council for three-year terms, are John F. Conners '14 of Bridgeport, Conn., and Sidney J. Flanigan '23 of New York.
ADOPT NEW REUNION PLAN
Among important items of business transacted, the Council gave final sanction to the Dartmouth Reunion Plan (also known as the Robinson Plan) following the approval expressed by the class officers at their Hanover meeting in May. The plan goes into effect next year and brings back three consecutive classes of each college generation instead of classes five years apart. Full details will appear in coming issues of the MAGAZINE.
Twenty-five members of the Council and 19 past members attended the two-day session which coincided with Reunion Weekend. Following an informal reception and dinner at the Hanover Inn, the Council held its opening meeting on Thursday evening, June 19, with Edwin R. Keeler '11 presiding. This evening session was devoted to a discussion of major College problems and policies and was highlighted by President Dickey's informal report and by a talk by Albert I. Dickerson '30, director of admissions, on the difficulties of administering the Selective Process in the present period of inflated application lists and college overcrowding. This topic was fully reviewed by the Council and was further discussed and reported upon the following day by the Council's Committee on Admissions, headed by Eugene Hotchkiss '22. '
HOLD COMMITTEE MEETINGS
Breakfast meetings on Friday morning were held by the Committees on Class Organization, Alumni Projects, and Dartmouth Parents, and other morning sessions were held by the Admissions, Class Gifts, and Fund Raising Policy Committees prior to the start of the full Council meeting in Sanborn House library at 11. Following luncheon, which provided an opportunity for the Alumni Fund Committee to meet, the final business session was held that afternoon. At the closing session reports were heard from the Special Committee on Athletic Organization, with Director of Athletics William H. McCarter '19 substituting for Chairman Clarence G. McDavitt '00; the Athletic Council, represented by Lloyd D. Brace '25, senior alumni member; and the Hopkins Center Campaign Committee, of which John W. Hubbell '21 is national chairman.
Committee chairmen who made reports at the various Alumni Council sessions included Hugh A. Johnson '30, class organization; Karl W. Koeniger '17, alumni projects; Parker Trowbridge '13, Dartmouth parents; Eugene Hotchkiss '22, admissions and schools; and Windsor C. Batchelder '19, class gifts, and fund raising policies.
In addition to the officers and members-atlarge elected, the Alumni Council named Dr. Norman W. Crisp '21 of Nashua, N. H., as member of the Athletic Council for three years; Robert W. Mitchell '32, editor and publisher of the Rutland Herald, as alumni representative on the Board of Proprietors of The Dartmouth for three years; and John R. McLane '07 of Manchester, N. H., as alumni representative on the Board of Trustees of the Dartmouth Outing Club for two years. Committee chairmen for the coming year were named as follows: Admissions and Schools, Eugene Hotchkiss '22, Chicago; Alumni Club Activities, C. Boyd Rogers '35' St. Louis; Alumni Fund, Richard A. Holton '18, Brooklyn, N. Y.; Alumni Projects, Prof. Andrew J. Scarlett '10, Hanover; Bequests, Roswell F. Magill '16, New York; Class Gifts, Windsor C. The Alumni Council voted to adopt a permanent meeting date at the time of class reunions in June. Its next meeting will be held in New York on November 20-21, the days just preceding the Dartmouth-Princeton football game at Princeton.
