THE Class of 1887 celebrated the sixtieth anniversary of their graduation with great enthusiasm and several events of unusual interest.
Outstanding was the presence of Mrs. Emily Harris of Berkeley, Calif., the class baby; also the presence of Mrs. Mary Junkins, wife of one of our most beloved, mourned classmates, and Mrs. Samuel C. Bartlett, wife of our esteemed classmate who resided for many years in Japan. Another highlight was the presence not only of the president of the class, George Hutchins Bingham, but also of eight of his descendants: sons and daughters and grandchildren.
The class had the pleasure of witnessing once again the events of a Dartmouth commencement and of participating in part of the weekend program. Friday was one of those rare June days that seem to be better in Hanover than anywhere else, and the President's reception that evening in the garden of his lovely home was an enjoyable occasion for all the alumni attending. The following morning was quite the reverse, with a heavy downpour of rain, but this did not lessen the success of the meeting of the General Alumni Association in Webster Hall, where we had the pleasure of hearing President Dickey, Bill Ham '97 of the Fifty-Year Class, and other speakers.
The class enjoyed a ride with a competent guide all over Hanover showing the many innovations since their entrance to college. The class dinner was served at the Hanover Inn on Saturday evening, June 14. Dr. Frank B. Sanborn, chairman of the committee of arrangements, presided. The speakers included a welcome by President Bingham, and brief addresses by the class valedictorian, Albert Emerson Hadlock, and by the secretary of the class.
THE 60-YEAR CLASS OF 1887 had eight members back for reunion over commencement weekend. Left to right, front row: White, Johnson, Hadlock, Cushman. Back row: Howland, Bingham, Sanborn, Gage.
