BOTH the number one and number three U. S. Army Air Force aces of World War II are Dartmouth graduates, according to a report released last month by Miss Charlotte E. Ford, alumni recorder, on the 11,091 Dartmouth men who served in the armed forces.

Lt. Col. John C. Meyer '41 of Silver Springs, Md. and Lt. Col. David C. Schilling '39 of Empire, Mich, have been ranked first and third respectively among top USAAF fighter pilots in a tabulation made by Armed Forces Magazine from official Air Force records. Lt. Col. Meyer is credited with planes and Lt. Col. Schilling with 3414.

A total of 5,398 Dartmouth alumni served in the U. S. Army's ground and air forces. Other figures in the report, which covers nearly half of the College's living alumni, show that 4,750 Dartmouth men were on active duty in the Navy; 675 in the Marine Corps; 134 in the Coast Guard; 74 in the Merchant Marine, and 31 in the Field Service.

An additional 29 served in Allied armies and navies. A total of 301 Dartmouth men lost their lives in war service.
