WITH THE ACCEPTANCE THIS FALL of 39 new regular students and 74 freshman contract students, enrollment in Dartmouth's Naval Reserve Officers' Training Corps has reached a total of 214, more than double that of a year ago.

Of this total number, no are contract students, including 74 freshmen, 24 sophomores, seven juniors and five seniors. 01 the 104 regular students, 37 are freshmen, 25 are sophomores, and 42 are juniors.

Under present Navy regulations which followed the passage of the new selective service act, all new contract students must agree to serve two years on active duty after graduation if called up by the Secretary of the Navy. All old contract students with the exception of seniors must also sign the deferment agreement or else be liable to induction.

Both regular and contract students take the same courses and are candidates for the same type reserve commissions. A regular student, who must serve up to 24 months after graduation, receives $50 monthly and the cost of the combined fee and textbooks. Except for a commuted ration allowance his junior and senior years, a contract student receives no government aid and has to serve after graduation only at the call of the Secretary of the Navy.
