Our Chairman-Secretary, Karl Koeniger, is on a trip to the West Coast and has given me the privilege of being guest editor this month. As Class Agent my principal interest at this time of year is the Class Alumni Fund and the opportunity our class has for giving and for meeting its quota. The requirements of the Fund being greater this year, we must all help a little more, and I have prepared some statistics and suggestions for each member of the class which might be entitled A SuggestedFormula for Giving to the Alumni Fund forthe Class of 1917 in the Year 1948.
Group One: Up to $25—Last year 188 members of the class, or 56% of the contributors, gave $2474 but only 14% of the total amount. In appreciation of what Dartmouth means to each of us and -what the College did to help us get a start in life, will each of the men in this group give on the basis of $1.00 per year for each year out of college, or $30 at least?
Group Two-. $25 to $50—43 contributors in this group gave 51,796.50. Of this, 24% of the class gave 17% of the total-an average of about $44 each. Will each man in this group give an additional $6.00 over what he gave last year and raise the average by that amount?
Group Three: $50 to $100-19 men gave $1,695, or an average of about $90 each. Of this, 9% gave 15% of the total. Will these men give an additional Sio over what they gave last year?
Group Four: 16 1917'ers gave $4,491, this 11% of the class giving 54% of the total amount. We are all proud of the success these sixteen men have achieved, as evidenced by their generosity to Dartmouth and to the Class of 1917. Our sincere hope is that each of these members will give as much as last year, more if possible—and, at any rate, add 10% to their last year's donation.
This is The Plan—The first mailing from the College was March 20. Send your check in promptly, if possible. If you have any questions, contact the Assistant Class Agent nearest you. If we don't hear from you, you will hear from them.
