"Reg Smith, of Albion, Mich., has been appointed chairman of the Nominating Committee for president of Rotary International for 1951-1952." Reg has been treasurer of the Union Steel Products Company of Albion since 1925. In a note to Don Brooks Reg says, "No Dartmouth fellows seem to come by Albion or particularly of the Class of 17, so I do read the news to keep up with the times. We have tickets to the Dartmouth-Michigan game so may find some there."

A clipping just received dated August 31 from the New York Times reports that DocSpears was critically ill in University Hospital, Ann Arbor, Mich, suffering from a heart condition. His daughter, Mrs. A. C. Lefever, said Doc was ''somewhat improved." We hope this has continued to be the case.

"1 he Hanover Inn reports that Roger Merrill and wife and Mel Palin and wife and daughter were guests in August. Also two visits in September from Mel. He must like the old town.

Carl Sweet has written from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., according to Gil Swett. Gil also reports a long letter from Heinie Wacker announcing among other items the birth of a son, his only child, six years ago. This would make Heinie runner-up in our contest "Latest addition to the '17 Cradle Roll"Walt Sisson, of course, being the prize-winner.

Word has just been received that AlexSteenrod passed away August 9, 1950. We have no further particulars at this time, but express our deepest sympathy to his family.

A letter from Helen Brooks, wife of "Moneybags" Brooks and mother of Bill '51, contains several news items and a blow-by-blow account of the second Brown wedding in Chatham.

"Having heard your pitiful cries for news and knowing what an uninspired letter writer Don isexcept when he asks for money—l thought you might like a run through of some notes that have accumulated during the summer.

"Our vacation was planned with the express purpose of attending Kay Brown's wedding to Pierce Smith on August 5 at Chatham. Having been through a wedding ourselves in January we were anxious to see how the 'Father of the Bride' survives two ceremonies in four months. We were not surprised to find that Mott took everything in his stride and was rewarded, after a week of rain, by having the day of the ceremony perfect as to weather. He gave away the most beautiful bride and the whole afternoon radiated the feeling of happiness that parents hope for when their daughter marries. Several good '17ers were present, to wit, Al and Helen Emmons, Phil and Jo Evans and Spique and Ruby Maclntyre. Spique looked particularly well and Ruby was enjoying her last fling before going home to condense the contents of their house at 243 Marsh Street, Belmont prior to moving on September 1 to Apartment 8-6 A, 100 Memorial Drive, Cambridge 42.

"Mott may be too modest to send you the following, but we were thrilled to hear that his eldest daughter, Dr. Eleanor Brown, has been appointed assistant to the Chief of Medicine at Bellevue Hospital as of July 1.

"A note from Howie Stockwell inquires about Don's health (he is fat and bouncing, I might add) and says that Howie is improving but he still takes it easy. He spent a month at their new summer place in Maine purchased this spring and remodelled in anticipation of visits from children and grandchildren.

"Sam White came in to see Don in September while east on his annual visit to see his father. Sam admits to a yen for Eastern football and hopes before too long to be where he can take in more of the games.

"Bill and Sally Sewall welcomed a second grandchild this summer, born to Cynthia.

"Our son Bill '51 went back to Hanover a week before registration to help John Gambling, Station Manager, get things started at WDBS. He is in charge of Special Events and has a weekly program sponsored by Dartmouth Co-op.

"This seems to cover our Dartmouth contacts except that no letter from 9 Park Terrace would be complete without an appeal from the oldest continuous living class treasurer to please get your checks in and make it unnecessary for Don to take pencil in hand and delicately hint 'Haven't you forgotten something?' "

ROG STONE '17 was a proud parent when his son Bill '50 was privileged to flip the tassel on his mortar board from right to left, last June.
