IN order to permit applicants for admission to make their decisions freely and without the pressure of varying deadlines, eight leading eastern colleges including Dartmouth have entered into an agreement to give prospective freshmen until June 15 to accept admission or financial aid. In addition to Dartmouth, the agreement has been subscribed to by Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, Pennsylvania, Princeton and Yale.

In the past, the dates for notifying successful candidates that their applications for admission had been accepted varied among the eight colleges from early April to late May. Dartmouth, while normally making its selections in April, has always allowed several weeks for the applicant to make his decision.

The new agreement was drafted at a recent conference of admissions and scholarship representatives of the eight institutions held at Princeton and was ratified by the individual admission and scholarship committees. Dartmouth was represented at the conference by Francis J. A. Neef, Director of the Personnel Bureau.

The agreement emphasized that whenever a student can reach a decision before June 15, he may with propriety notify the institution. The eight colleges participating are also hopeful that this is a movement in which other colleges will join.
