Dartmouth students won a victory over Baker Library last month. After two weeks of mounting pressure, the library staff reluctantly gave in and granted the students their wish—anextra hour of study time each night.
For a trial period Baker officials agreed to keep the lower study level open until 11 p.m. instead of 10 p.m., thereby meeting the request of the academic committee of the new Undergraduate Council. To make the change permanent, new library regulations would be needed, according to Librarian Nathaniel L. Goodrich.
Whether born of necessity or bookish enthusiasm, this campus development ought to give pause to those alumni who long to be Dartmouth students again.
