Dean Dickerson Dies
JUNE 1972

Albert I. Dickerson '30, Dean of Freshmen, died in his sleep in the early morning hours of May 18, at the age of 64. Although he had been away from the office for two days, not feeling well, his death came as stunning news for the entire College community. An autopsy gave the cause of death as a cerebral aneurism.

Dean Dickerson became a member of the Dartmouth administrative staff soon after graduation in 1930, as assistant to President Hopkins. In his 42 years of service he held many other posts: director of the news service, executive assistant to the President, executive officer of the College, excutive secretary of the Alumni Fund, director of admissions and of financial aid, and, since 1956, Dean of Freshmen.

A memorial service, attended by more than 500, was held in Rollins Chapel on May 20, with an eulogy delivered by President Emeritus John Sloan Dickey. A memorial article will appear in our next issue.
