A doctor seldom has much free time to himself, but Dr. Milton M. Lieberthal '32 has even less after using it to pursue a hobby that has already started to pay him back royally. Dr. Lieberthal, who lives in Long Hill, Conn., now writes all the radio scripts for "The Sheriff Show," a grand total of 50 shows a year.
While at Dartmouth, he was not only managing editor of Jacko but also a Glee Club member and co-author of two Winter Carnival revues, Exit Smiling and 500 Gallons.
Upon graduation from Dartmouth, he left pen and paper behind to enter the New York University Medical School, and it wasn't until World War II came along and Dr. Lieberthal joined the Army Medical Corps that he took pen in hand once more. While stationed at the Moore General Hospital in Savannah, Georgia, the Doctor, then a Captain, became author-director of a 30- minute Army Variety Radio Program, broadcast once a week from Asheville, N. C.
Back to civilian life again, Dr. Lieberthal began sending scripts into the Dr. Christian competitions. One of the scripts, entitled "Dr. Christian Tells a Lie," took a special award and had its world premiere, with Jean Hersholt as the star, over CBS in January, 1947. Since then, his script-writing career has flourished until Dr. Lieberthal isn't able to tell where one profession starts and the other ends.
