As was true for most of the country, summer 1949 in Philadelphia was good for little but swimming, iced tea and griping about meteorologic conditions. Nevertheless, the local alumni association was far from deactivated.

On May 3, fifty of the younger alumni, representing classes '40 through '48 gathered for dinner and a pow-wow. This occurred mainly as a result of the efforts of energetic "Obe" Obermayer '46 who, along with others, was disturbed by the fact that during the past few years the younger men have taken only a very limited part in the activities of the Dartmouth Club and have been missing the use of the fine facilities available at our headquarters, The Princeton Club. Those present engaged in an enthusiastic discussion concerning those things which do exist and those things which they would like to develop to foster young-man interest in the Club.

One result of this meeting was the entrance of a Dartmouth Club team in the Inter-Club Softball league. Although we entered a bit late in the season, and without preliminary team practice, the results were gratifying; and more important, the team and the alumni rooters had a wonderful time. We beat Yale 15-13; lost to Philadelphia Cricket 20-5; shellacked Philadelphia Racquet 21-5; topped Merion Cricket 6-3; and lost a tight one to Huntington Valley 8-7. The team included "Bud" Jobson '45, John Miller '45, LouYoung '41, Jack Young '47, Stu Young '50, Bob Bach '47, Dick Farrington '38, Dave Larson '52, Pete Larson '47, Jim Tindle '36 and Rod Walser '45.

We deeply regret losing one of our most active members, Cornwall Miller '39. Cornie, who has been our conscientious, live-wire secretary for several years, is on his way to Hartford.

Scheduled events for the fall include a Father and Son Luncheon for members of the Class of '53 on September 7, a DartmouthPenn game rally Friday night, September 30, Dartmouth Night observance at the Princeton Club October 7, and a Pre-Princeton game rally November 18 at the Princeton Club.

Weekly luncheons are held every Monday at noon, Princeton Club, 1223 Locust St.
