Through the efforts of Richard Rendell '28, Washington newspaperman and radio reporter, U. S. soldiers of the Berlin airlift crews are now entitled to wear a special campaign medal recognizing their superlative work. Rendell, while making a tour of Europe for a broadcasting company, was so impressed by the gallant efforts of the men flying food, clothing and fuel into Berlin that he decided the American people, through Congress, ought to do something about it.

A former Army public relations officer in three war theaters, he started a campaign among his friends in Congress. Good public relations men like Rendell apparently excel at attaining their objectives. Today the Berlin airlift crews are wearing campaign medals.

The nationwide audience of the "We the People" radio program in July heard how Rendell persuaded the U. S. Government to approve the special award in the actual words of the broadcaster himself. Rendell has worked for Newsweek magazine in Washington, the Associated Press, and the ChicagoTimes. He is now associated with the American Broadcasting Company.
