A capacity crowd of 13,909 jammed Memorial Field on October 19 to watch the Big Green come from behind in the fourth quarter to beat Holy Cross, 13-8. It was a typical Holy Cross game.
The Indians scored first as a Dana Kelly to Tom Spangenberg pass capped a 74-yard drive and Gary Wilson's point after put the Green ahead 7-0. Two long aerials, however, put the Cross back in the game, and the Indians trailed at the half, 8-7.
The second half was all Dartmouth, but the Green could do everything but score. Things were getting desperate for the Green after three drives fizzled, but the fourth begun from its own 42 went all the way, climaxed by the "Irish special," a reverse play from the Crusader 18 that went from Kelly to O'Brien to Kelly, who then threw a perfect pass to O'Brien for the touchdown.
That was the fifteenth victory in a row.
