There have been two extremely successful meetings of the Central New York Dartmouths during the fall season, serving to revitalize old loyalties for the college on the hill. There is also a noticeable increase in the strength and organization of our local club which bids fair for the future.
The first of the fall meetings was held on October 7, consisting of the usual splendid University Club dinner and a fine speaking program featuring Art Young and Ray Truncellito of the football coaching staff. The movie, Highlights of 1948, was shown for dessert—with many tasty touchdowns for those of us who failed to see them in person. Art Young did a very fine job of narration with the films. The wonderful program and spirit of the meeting in general served as a most auspicious start for the 1949-50 season in Central New York alumni circles.
On October 28, a different type of meeting was conducted with a larger objective than simply good fellowship, although that element was certainly there in strength. This was an evening smoker, to which were invited several of the local high school coaches, prospective students, interested fathers, and friends of Dartmouth. There were more than seventy in attendance, which makes it one of the best attended meetings of recent years. Representing Hanover were Eddie Chamberlain '36, Assistant Director of Athletics, Elmer Lampe, Football End Coach and Head Coach of Basketball, and Ray Truncellito, Freshman Football Coach. After a brief speaking program, movies of the Harvard game of the previous week were shown, with commentary by Elmer Lampe.
This meeting served to introduce mutually some of the local alumni and prospective Dartmouth students. The opportunity for getting some first-hand information on Dartmouth in general was taken advantage of by several of the visitors, and the result has surely been the enhancement of the Green's reputation in this vicinity. It is planned to make this an annual affair.
This year's program has started particularly well, and we invite any alumni in this territory to join in our future activities.
In closing, may we offer congratulations to our member, M. Carter Strickland '29, who has just been elected President and Treasurer of the Board of the Smith-Lee Cos., Inc. in Oneida.
