The annual Christmas luncheon honoring the Dartmouth undergraduates from our Club area was held on December 26, at the Onondaga Golf Club in Syracuse. A total of 138 alumni, undergraduates, fathers, school men, and prospective students attended the impressive meeting, which was highlighted by the presentation of an honorary life membership to Bob Shawkey, Dartmouth baseball coach, who resides in Syracuse.

William J. Morrow '4l, newly-elected president, conducted the proceedings, which began with an invocation by Rev. Richard P. McClintock '26 of Watertown. After a fine luncheon, President Morrow introduced Mr. Dartmouth of Central New York, William G.Morton '28, who presented the 23 undergraduates, citing the recent record of each man. It was immediately and clearly evident that here is a remarkable group of young men in whom we may all take great pride.

Brief responses were made by Clark Griffiths '57, John Koehring '55, Joe Mathewson '55, president of the junior class, and also by Harry O. Nutting Jr., Lehigh '27, on behalf of the fathers present.

A scroll signifying honorary life membershipin the Club was then awarded by NormanL. Simpson '44, with the following citation:

ROBERT J. SHAWKEY. ... One of baseball's greatest pitchers; a member of the fabulous New York Yankee teams of the Twenties; able manager and developer of young ball players; now head coach of baseball at Dartmouth College; and a resident of Syracuse, New York.

We of the Dartmouth Club of Central New York welcome you to the Dartmouth fellowship and as a token of our appreciation and understanding of what you have done for boys in the past, and are now doing for boys at Dartmouth, we present you with this scroll emblematic of HONORARY LIFE MEMBERSHIP in our Club.

Following the presentation, Shawkey spokebriefly. The day was completed with moviesof Winter Carnival and the 1953 footballseason.

Our Christmas luncheon, always the high point in the Club year, reached a new peak of excellence this year which bodes a fine future for Dartmouth representation in Central New York.

On March 10 Dean Joseph McDonald will be our guest from the College to speak at a dinner for alumni, wives and parents.
