More military news to report: Jeremy Joseph was deployed from San Diego in August aboard the USS Peleliu with the Marine Corps 13 th Marine Expeditionaiy Unit. He is now on a nine-month deployment with his first stop in Kenya. Also, David Mulliken, having gone through intense and extensive officer training with the Army, is now part of the elite Army Rangers. He recently deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan, for a nine-month tour of duty to command his own platoon.
Brenda Withers and Mindy Kaling '01 wrote and starred in Matt & Ben, a production depicting Matt Damon and Ben Affleck just before they became famous. A New York Times review wrote that it "succeeds because both as writers and actors, [they] have a fine, deadpan sense of the absurd and the vicious." In addition Access Hollywood repotted that Nicole Kidman and Steve Martin caught a performance.
Ainsley Ryan is one of three emerging artists who gave an opera recital in September at Merkin Concert Hall in N.Y.C. They performed a selection of arias, duets and trios in 3 Friends 3 Voices. Additionally, Ainsley and Chris Showalter '99 were engaged in July.
Gary Stern, Ryan Smerek, Ken Kriwanek '99 and eight friends showed Brian Laibow a good time forhis bachelor party in LasVegas in July.After Friday night s festivities and along day by the pools, the second night lead to Rum Jungle and a pajama party at Rain, where they tried to control the wily Laibow. They were unsuccessful, however, as the penniless (but proud) gentleman had to walk the two-hour distance back to the MGM, arriving sometime after sun-up. A good time was had by all and Laibow was well-prepared to enter the world of marriage on August 24 with his long-time sweetheart, Galit Hadari.
Congratulations to all those who were married over the summer! On July 5 Kacey Perkins and Veej Tift were married in Santa Barbara, California. The five-day event included wine tast- ing, beaching, hanging in the "real world house" and ranching. Betsy Beck married Matt Brown on july 12 in Boothbay, Maine, with many classmates on-hand to witness the event. Also, Adam Horst married Kelly Keene 'Ol in August in Hanover. Dan Herlihy and Alice Nelson '99 were married in Richmond, Virginia, on July 19. A large Dartmouth contingent was in attendance to celebrate in style. Jenny Lange married her long-time high school sweetheart, Thomas Krause (Princeton 00), on July 26 in their hometown of Orinda, California. Lauren Carroll was a bridesmaid, and many Dartmouth friends and teammates made the trip to California for the celebration.
Ryan Jones, Ned Spang, Chris Carney, Ben Nasfou, Wook Kim and Drew Mowery took David Morland up to Maine for camping and white water rafting on the Penobscot River for his bachelor party in August. The following weekend Drew, Ned Dybvig, Drew Pluhar, Ed Thomas, Dan Huddleston, Brent Edwards, Mike Rand and Jon Taylor convened in New York City to celebrate Ryan Jones' bachelor party with some deep-sea fishing, a steak dinner at the Palms and some other late-night festivities.
When not celebrating with his to-be-wed buds, Drew Mowery spent his summer living in Boston with Ned Hall and Steve Hallowell '01 while doing research with an orthopedic surgeon and is now starting up his second year at Northwestern Medical School in Chicago. Drew also played host to a bunch of Dartmouth alumni (and others) in Cape Cod where the crew partook in an outstanding game of the Mowery Family Fun Game. Fix yourself girl....
