ANNOUNCEMENT was made late in January by President Dickey of the appointment of Prof. James C. Babcock of the University of Chicago as Visiting Professor in the Humanities for the second semester. On leave of absence from Chicago, Professor Babcock has been a member of the faculty there since 1936. Earlier he taught Spanish and French at the University of lowa. A native of Fayetteville, Arkansas, he received his A.B. degree from the University of Arkansas in 1929 and his A.M. and Ph.D. degree from the University of lowa in 1930 and 1934, respectively. Professor Babcock is editor of Spanish college textbooks for Houghton Mifflin Company.
Also named to the faculty for the second semester were Jack J. Hasch, Instructor in Speech, and Thornton Finkelday '48, Teaching Fellow in Chemistry. A native of Spokane, Wash., Mr. Hasch recently received his M.A. from the University of Illinois. Mr. Finkelday, whose home is in Bellrose, N. Y., completed his requirements for a degree at Dartmouth last month.
