IN THE FIRST progress report for the 1949 Alumni Fund campaign, the Agents' Bulletin on April 15 disclosed that the number of contributors and the amount contributed during the first 15 days was slightly smaller than for a similar period a year ago. This was partly attributable, however, to the fact that the opening mailing piece was sent five days later this year than in 1948. As of April 15 a total of 2,438 alumni had contributed $78,161.79 towards the $375,000 goal as compared with 2,623 contributors and $91,649.51 at the same point in last year's campaign.

In the Fund's second mailing piece, headed "Root Responsibilities" and sent to alumni late in April, President Dickey cited as Dartmouth's two indispensable requisites, first, an unqualified obligation to be engaged in the daily business 01 encouraging and aiding men to seek and to speak the truth and, secondly, an individual responsibility on the part of her alumni to help in the realization of the College's greatness.

Coincidental with the opening of the 35th annual Alumni Fund campaign April 1 a series of class agents' dinners were held in Chicago, Cleveland, New York and Boston. At the Chicago meeting the James B. Reynolds Trophy for all-around achievement by an agent among classes more than 20 years out of college was awarded to Roger C. Wilde '21, while at the New York dinner the Harvey P. Hood Trophy for the outstanding agent among classes less than 20 years out of college was presented to Ernest H. Moore '31. The citations accompanying these awards will be found in the respective class columns of the two recipients.
