THE presence on the campus of Paul Sample '20 as Artist-in-Residence has made art something more than an academic interest at Dartmouth. Not only does Sample demonstrate great and honest art in the making, but he also serves as a friendly stimulus to others who have the urge to paint or sketch. This month's lead article tells something about Paul Sample's influence on the Dartmouth campus and about his artistic credo. Written by Prof. Herbert F. West '22, who himself has become a competent painter under Sample's tutelage, the article will be found on Page 13.
Another influence for artistic good at Dartmouth is Prof. E. Bradlee Watson '02, founder of the Experimental Theatre, who retires at the close of this academic year. His English department colleague, Prof. Benfield Pressey, has written The Experimental Theatre (Page 18), describing the growth of this drama program and Professor Watson's leading part in it.
Our series of reports from Dartmouth men abroad is brought to a close for this publication year by Letter from Geneva, written by Michael J. de Sherbinin '42, who is in the famous Swiss city as public information officer for one of the U.N. agencies. It will be found on Page 23.
