1889 Holds Successful 60th
July 1949 RALPH S. BARTLETT '89,

HANOVER at Commencement time in recent years has annually been the rallying-point of a group of '89 men—a custom long followed by a coterie of men of '87. Our 60th anniversary reunion this year brought together seven of our nine living graduate members, the same number—and the same men, with two exceptions—as gathered for our annual rendezvous at Commencement time one year ago.

Present this year were: George P. Bard, Nashville, Tenn. Ralph S. Bartlett, Boston, Mass. Edwin B. Davis, New Brunswick, N. J. Hardy S. Ferguson, Dobbs Ferry, N. Y. Harry M. Frost, Swampscott, Mass. Clarence E. Moulton, Montpelier, Vt. Oliver S. Warden, Great Falls, Montana.

Also present were Mrs. Harry M. Frost, and Mrs. Burt H. Redfield of Goffstown, N. H.

By mid-Friday afternoon, June 10, our entire group had arrived in Hanover and that evening we dined at the Inn at a table specially reserved, at which we had the pleasure of having with us Bingham, Gage and Sanborn of the class of '87. Saturday morning we gathered on the lawn adjoining the Inn where group photographs were taken. The class secretary then read letters received from absent classmates and men of various classes in college during our time, among whom were such old-timers as "Biff" Kelly '86, and "Father" Pattee,

"Doc" Lougee and Wendell Williams, veteran survivors of 'BB.

Saturday noon we attended the traditional Alumni Buffet Luncheon given by the College. It was served on the lawn in front of the gymnasium, following which a meeting of the General Association of Alumni was held in the gymnasium building with songs by the Glee Club and addresses by President Dickey and representatives of the senior and reuning classes. At this meeting the class of 'B9 was awarded the silver trophy cup for having present at its 60-year reunion the highest percentage of living graduates of all classes holding reunions.

Saturday evening our 60-year reunion dinner was held in the main dining room of the Inn. "Doc" Warden, class president of 'B9, was host, and nothing was overlooked either by him, or Mrs. Warden, whose absence was much regretted, in making the dinner a tremendous success. On a round table in the middle of the dining room plates were set for our group of nine. In the center of the table was a beautiful floral arrangement crowned in rather large block figures with "89," grouped about which were eight tall lighted candles. Before being seated we were photographed standing around the table. A corsage was at each lady's plate, and at the plate of each graduate member was a small package presented by our host containing a beautiful leather billfold on which, in gold letters, was the member's name. Tucked away in an inside pocket was a silver dollar of the year 1889. Also inside was inserted a card, printed in dark green, reading: "Dartmouth College, 60-year Reunion Dinner, Class of 1889. Hanover Inn, June 11, 1949. Recalling the Days at Dartmouth for (giving the member's name)." Each absent member was mailed from Hanover one of these unique remembrances bearing his name.

Sunday morning four of our members marched at the head of the alumni body in the procession to the Bema for the Combined BaccalaUrfeate and Commencement Exercises, and were seated on the platform.

An interesting feature of our reunion was the pleasure of having there HenryBlair's album of photographs of his college days, which had been sent on to your secretary lrom Washington, D. C., for deposit in the archives of the College.

In parting we unanimously proclaimed our 60-year reunion a great success and firmly resolved to return to Hanover a year hence.
