If New England is confronted with another forest fire emergency this fall, which seems unlikely because of September rains, the area can thank two Dartmouth alumni for planning interstate assistance. The Northeastern Forest Fire Protection Commission, at its last annual meeting, elected Arthur S. Hopkins 'OB, Director of Lands and Forests in New York State, as Vice Chairman, and Robie M. Evans '06, retired Eastern Regional Forester of the U.S. Forest Service, as Executive Secretary. The organization, which was set up under a mutual aid compact enacted by the Northeastern States, makes its headquarters at Laconia, N. H.
